title: Localized waves in ultrafast and quantum optics
reg no: ETF6547
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
status: accepted
institution: University of Tartu
head of project: Peeter Saari
duration: 01.01.2005 - 31.12.2008
description: By its content the planned research is theoretical, with some experimental part. The fields it belongs to are wave
optics (incl. Fourier optics) and ultrafast optics -- generation and application of ultrashort laser pulses. The
purpose of the project is to develope further study and applications of so-called localized waves -- wavepackets
that do not spread in linear media -- and to make use of the results for some intriguing problems recently found in quantum optics.
A by-product of the project will hopefully be 2 Ms.Sci. degrees and 1 Ph.D degree.
