head of project: Heidi-Ingrid Maaroos
duration: 01.01.2006 - 31.12.2011
description: The goal of the research project is to identify the role of lifestyle, infections and family related and socioeconomic risk factors in development of common health disorders as well as to predict the prognostic profile of the risk for common health disorders with multifactorial risk factors and to establish the ways of intervention in this profile and to find out the readiness of family doctors to manage such risk factors. The study subjects will be persons who suffer from common health disorders with a socioeconomic background (depression, skin problems), social risk groups (persons without health insurance, teenagers), family doctors, family nurses and social workers. The aim is to identify the risk factors for these groups, to develop corresponding risk models and to study the health predisposition of patients at risk with the purpose to reduce the risk for acquiring disease. Besides individual risk factors, the patients will assess primary level health care and availability of the services of social welfare as well as the risks arising from the coordination of the two areas (health care and social welfare). Analysis will also be made of family doctors` job satisfaction and the readiness of family doctors and family nurses to manage patients suffering from diseases with a socioeconomic risk profile as well as the willingness and preparedness of family doctors, family nurses and social workers to deal with patients` individual risk factors. Proceeding from the risk factors and the patients` health predisposition, the risks will be intervened using patient consultations and instructions for individual prevention (hygiene, diet, intervention in body weight), physical exercise as well as organisational measures for communicating with patients. The results of the intervention will be inspected using regular follow-up and repeat investigations with the methods applied in basic resrearch. The following methods will be used: Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI) and Health and Lifestyle Risk Questionnaire. A case based opinion study, investigations of the focus group and clinical tests for evaluation of anemia, rosacea and Helicobacter pylori infection, physical exercise tests will be carried out.
