reg no: SF0182695s05
project type: targeted financing
subject: 3.3. Clinical Medicine
3.6. Health Care and Medical Services of Mother and Child
status: accepted
institution: University of Tartu
head of project: Vallo Tillmann
duration: 01.01.2005 - 31.12.2010
description: The project involves 3 studies to study the impact of early internal and external factors on a child's development and the development of various chronic illnesses. The first study investigates what effects the mode and analgesia of delivery have on early behaviour and olfactory learning in a newborn, mother-child and father-child relationships and the child's development. The second study is the follow-up of 200 children born in 1993 and 100 children born in 1997-1998 to study the early riskfactors of allergy (diet, atopic sensibilisation, intestinal microflora, etc). Analysing the riskfactors over the 10-year period and between these 2 groups, could lead to a better understanding of why the incidence of allergic diseases is increasing in Estonia. The third study investigates the endothelial function as an early marker of atherosclerosis in children with Type1 diabetes. We will also study the impact of anti-oxidant drugs on the endotheial function and thus on the development of angiopathy in children with Type 1 diabetes.
