description: | Research theme belongs to the core of population studies and focuses on the replacement of generations. In this framework, the theme brings together three directions of demographic research at EDI/EKDK which have undergone successful scientific evaluation. The theme focuses on the challenges of modern population development in Estonia, in a broader context of Baltoscandia and Europe, with particular emphasis on the causes and long-term implications of the transformations that occurred in the 1990s. Research builds on an integrated set of five nationally representative event history surveys, complemented by the second round of national and PPA survey, as well as harmonised vital and census statistics. Research methodology is centred around cohort perspective, life-course approach and event history analysis. The theme is internationally coordinated with leading projects/networks in the field of population, including European Population Committee, UN ECE and EU framework programs. Through the participation of Ph.D. students the theme makes a contribution to research training. |
