description: The aim of the project is to trace the influence of political events on the Russian press and culture in Estonia during World War II, a short but complicated and not thoroughly studied period. The project deals with the Russian cultural life in Estonia during the four periods connected with the changes of the state authorities. Goal of this project is to discover and classify archival materials, press and literary materials on the Russian minorities in Estonia from the following periods: 1) August 1939 – June 1940. The beginning of the World War II. Here it is supposed to investigate the cultural context of Estonian Republic and transformation of the policy regarding Russians in Estonia in connection with the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. 2) June 1940 – June 1941. The first Soviet occupation of Estonia and the beginning of the destroying of the Russian culture in Estonia. 3) July 1941- September 1944. German occupation of Estonia and partial renewal of the Russian culture. 4) the 2nd half of 1944 – 2 nd September 1945. – The beginning of the Soviet occupation in Estonia. The destroying of the culture of the Russian minority in Estonia.
The final goal of the project is to compile and publish a collection “Russian Press and Culture In Estonia During World War II (1939-1945)”.
