The project will continue the work accomplished in the frame of Grant no. 4561 (The world of Odysseus revisited: social and political tendencies in the Early Iron Age and Archaic Greece (11th – 6th centuries BC), which has led to the questioning of some relatively widespread but not well founded conceptions about the social and political tendencies in early Greece (see below). The purpose is to advance the work by introducing the comparative evidence concerning the social and political development in the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age Anatolia and in the Early Iron age and Archaic Itlay, and, besides, by considering the applicability and implications of the theories of the emergence and development of early civilisations. In this way we hope to acheive a better founded and balanced view of the social and political developments in the Early Iron Age and Archaic Greece. |
