| description: | The main question is, how institutional structures of theatre (organisational, economical and ideological settings) influence artistic outcomes (quantity, aesthetics, artistic quality and ideology of performances), but also reception and position or meaning of theatre in society. And vice versa, what kind of effect has theatrical reception upon following productions and (re)organisation of theatre structures. The final aim of the project is to discover which system characteristics or which agents determine artistic outcomes the most. Working on these theoretical questions, several cultural periods will be investigated from a new point of view: German theatre system in Estonia in the 19th century and Estonian theatre system in the period of transition 1985–2005. Comparative analysis of international research data creates broader and more versatile context for results of Estonian project, verifying or negating universality of local regularities. |
