duration: 01.01.2006 - 31.12.2009
description: The aim of this work is to measure the redox potentials of small thiopeptides locateing in the endoplasmatic reticulum and involved in the formation of native proteins in the non-aqueous solvents (i.e. 1-octanol, dimethyl sulfoxide dimethyl formamide, ethanol and methanol) and in the aqueous solutions of previosly listed organic compounds. These studies should give an answer to the question do the folding process (the formation of the disulphide bond) is possible in a non-aqueous environment i.e. in the lipid layer of a cell. The redox potentials of these small peptides will be measured applying the cyclic voltammetry and rotating disk electrode methods. Information obtained will be used to calculate physico-chemical values like changes in the entrophy, Gibbs energy and entalphy, to charackterize the properties of these peptides upon the composition of the solution, and to improve electroanalytical techniques of the determination of thiopeptides.
