title: CHARACTERIZATION OF THE GENES PROTECTING THE TRANSLATIONAL APPARATUS IN STRESS CONDITIONS
reg no: ETF6768
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 1.9. Genetics, Physiology and Microbiology
status: accepted
institution: Tartu University Institute of Technology
head of project: Tanel Tenson
duration: 01.01.2006 - 31.12.2009
description: Products of several genes protect the bacterial translational apparatus in stress conditions. Some of the stress response genes have been inactivated in previous studies. Unfortunately, different E.coli strains have been used for the inactivations, making comparisons of the roles of the genes difficult, as different effects could occur in different genetic backgrounds. Moreover, no standard sets of conditions have been developed for comparison of the strains.
The aims of the current project are:
1. To develop standard experimental conditions for the comparisons of different E. coli knock-out strains.
2. To determine the roles of genes protecting the translational machinery (relA, spoT, rmf, relB, relE, yfiA, yhbH, sra, ssrA) in different stress conditions.
