The project will continue earlier grant projects in the field of Estonian music history, developing in this way the basis for writing a new history of Estonian music in the future. The basic difference of the new approach to the material of Estonian music history from the earlier versions is a possibility to use archive materials that were earlier closed or the use of which was restricted (the history of Baltic German culture, the archives of different societies). Also, the general change of views concerning Estonian history (the significance of nationalism, the role of Baltic Germans) should be mentioned; the methodological starting point of the project considers the structures of musical life to be the main items for research. |
