title: New methods of synthesis of hydrazino acids and their derivatives
reg no: ETF6706
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 1.7. Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry
status: accepted
institution: TU Faculty of Physics and Chemistry
head of project: Uno Mäeorg
duration: 01.01.2006 - 31.12.2009
description: The aim of the study is to develop efficient and robust methods for preparation of hydrazino acids (aza amino acids) and alpha-hydrazino acids, using strategies and tactics described in our previous publications. Also, scope of these employed methods is to be screened on different target-structures. The another goal is to use the prepared hydrazino acids in the synthesis of azapeptides and peptide conjugates, investigate their biological activity and to design new structures in order to achieve the best results. Free NH groups are to be altered with diverse substituents and the accompanying influence on bioactivity will be demonstrated.
To complete the goals a large toolbox of synthetics will be employed, such as binding of bioactive compounds on solid phase and combinatorial chemistry. Green chemistry aspects are taken into account. To design and create a compound with predetermined properties, regio- and stereoselective methods will be used. New reactions of azo compounds and novel arylation methods, all discovered and studied in our group, being the vivid examples of them.
In addition to this, the project is closely related to the transition metal catalysis (besides all others cheap and available mischmetall complexes), as it enables to perform many useful transformations for enantioselective synthesis of alfa-hydrazino acids.
The preliminary results are promising and warrant the success of the whole Grant project.
