title: Probe microscopy and analysis of solid surfaces and deposits
reg no: ETF5032
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 1.3. Physics
2.2. Materials Science
status: completed
institution: Institute of Physics at University of Tartu
head of project: Väino Sammelselg
duration: 01.01.2002 - 31.12.2005
description: The aim of the project is to get new knowledge about surface/subsurface area and deposits studying them with scanning probe microscopy and probe analysis methods, and to contribute to the development of the technologies dealing with the surface-phenomena and thin deposits/films.
It is planned further to develop the methods of scanning probe microscopy and probe analysis, to check and integrate them for getting more trustworthy and complex knowledge about the samples.
It is also planned to design and built a reactor chamber for modification sample surfaces and for deposition on them thin films and to integrate the chamber into a surface analysis complex which will be obtained in the institute next year.
Using the microscopy and analysis methods it is hoped to get more information about local structure, mechanical and electrical properties of solid surfaces and deposits, about chemical nature of the deposits, about the conditions of substrate surfaces and about the first steps of nucleation of deposits to find a way for epitaxial growth of some metal oxide films.
