description: | The current project investigates the main characteristics of learning objects (LO) influencing on students' problem-solving and decision-making skills and how they can be integrated into metadata and specification of LOs. It is predicted that students' skills can be effectively developed in the web-based learning environment by specifying essential characteristics of LOs in respect to the particular learning theories and integrating these to the metadata and specifications of LOs. The research work will try to clarify different types of scaffolding elements that support the usage of LOs in both collaborative and inquiry learning environment in order to enhance students' scientific understanding. Moreover, in the realization of the present work we will optimize the architecture both LOs and learning environment that correlates with learner's individual needs and also with more accepted learning theories. It can be achieved by the appropriate standardization of metadata and specifications of LOs. As a result of the present project the standards for metadata of LOs will be developed and new LOs will be created in according to the theoretical basis of the present study. New elements of learners' scaffolding systems will help to link current understanding of LOs to the learning theories and, thereby, to meet better the needs of teachers and students. The prototypes of the present work will be tested in pilot study and in international comparative study as well. The results of the project will help to develop international standardization of metadata of LOs. All the results are applicable in creating virtual learning systems for different school systems. |
