title: Synthetic biligand inhibitors of protein kinases
reg no: ETF6710
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 1.7. Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry
status: accepted
institution: TU Faculty of Physics and Chemistry
head of project: Asko Uri
duration: 01.01.2006 - 31.12.2009
description: Protein kinases (PK) catalyze the transfer of the terminal phosphate group of a nucleotide (usually adenosine 5’-triphosphate) to the protein to be phosphorylated. Due to importance of the protein phosphorylation in many aspects of cell life PK have become the second largest group of drug targets. The project deals with the development of selective high-affinity biligand inhibitors for the regulation of the activity of PK. The objectives of the project are the introduction of flexible synthetic procedures for the production of biligand inhibitors of PK, evaluation of the affinity of novel inhibitors towards multiple PK, establishment their mechanism of action and the applicability of biligand PK inhibitors in modern biophysical assays and for the regulation of intracellular protein phosphorylation equilibria.
